Four people have reportedly lost their lives and one person is still missing in Lagos after a boat capsized in Ajah.
The boat was carrying 22 passengers when it was hit from behind by another boat, Vanguard reports.
However, there have been other accounts as to what caused the accident with some supposed witnesses attributing it to heavy waves and yet others saying it was caused by a log of wood.
According to reports, 17 people were successfully rescued from the wreckage but 4 people, said to be carpenters returning from a job, died inside the boat.
A diver in the area reportedly said:
“The boat operator was dumbfounded and could not recollect the number of passengers in the boat. It was when we got to the jetty that we cross-checked the number and we went back only to find four bodies inside the boat,”
The boat in question was said to be the property of the Oke’ra-Nla Boat Association in Ajah.
