Armed response officers combing garden following Salford explosion
Three men have been arrested after a series of violent tit-for-tat attacks between Salford gangs.Officers executed warrants in Pendlebury, Salford, and in Wigan.Men,
aged 27, 35 and 65, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to
commit murder. They remain in police custody for questioning.
The
arrests relate to four incidents. The first was at the junction of
Fairfield Road and Doveleys Road in Irlams o’th Heights at about 12.15am
on February 17, during which two people were shot.
The second
was on March 21, near to Agecroft Road and Brattice Drive, when a man
was attacked with a machete, causing injuries to his neck, torso and
back.
On March 30 at 12.50am, a hand grenade was thrown at a
house, in Formby Road, Duchy, Salford, causing damage to the front of
the house
Lastly on the same day at 5.20pm, police were called to
Bolton Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, following reports shots had been
fired at a car wash and a man had suffered gunshot wounds. The victim
was hit twice but survived.
The incidents are believed to be linked to a feud between two rival factions of criminals in Salford, and a large policing operation is in place.
A further two people arrested as part of the investigation remain on police bail, making five arrests in total.
Detective
Chief Inspector Paul Parker, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We
know these incidents caused a great deal of anxiety and alarm in the
communities affected.
“Since that time, detectives from the Major
Incident Team have been working very hard with residents in the
communities themselves and neighbourhood officers to investigate these
incidents and establish who is involved.
“As a result, we have carried out a proactive operation today and arrested three people.
“I
hope this reassures people that we are actively targeting those we
suspect are involved but we are still appealing for witnesses to the
incidents or to anyone who may have information to assist the
investigation.
