The national coordinator of Human Rights Writers Association of
Nigeria (HURIWA) Mr Emmanuel Onwubiko has described Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka
of Adoration Ministry Enugu as a confused sorcerer who needed divine
intervention and prayers of Nigerians to rediscover his priestly
vocation. This is coming on the heels of allegation levelled against HURIWA’s
national coordinator by Mbaka that Onwubiko should be among those that
should be investigated over purported assassination plans against
President Muhammadu Buhari.
The allegation which was published on national dailies including
LEADERSHIP quoted Fr Mbaka as saying that security agents should beam
its searchlight on Emmanuel Onwubiko and its national Media Affairs
Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf over their plans to drag him to court
concerning his New Year prophesy on plot to assassinate Buhari.
The rights group had asked the Catholic Bishops Conference (CBCN) to
sanction Rev Mbaka within 21 Days, “ For abandoning his sacred vocation
and deviating into the mundane roadside career of politics while he hid
under the canopy of his priestly vocation, failing which he will be
dragged to Pope Francis at Vatican City.”
This was contained in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP
yesterday and signed by the national coordinator of HURIWA, Comrade
Emmanuel Onwubiko titled, “Mixing Sorcery and Catholicism: We leave
Mbaka to his Conscience.”
According to him, “ Our reaction to his so called prophesy was done
in exercise of our freedom of expression and we are not afraid of his so
called reaction advising the security officials to seek our view but
based on emerging reality.
“We will not proceed to the Vatican with our petition even if the
Bishops are too afraid to advise Fr Mbaka to abide by his priestly
vocation and leave politics for politicians.
He wondered why Mbaka was scared of responding to the Bishops if they
had written the letter adding that HURIWA never made any attempt to
drag him to court except to the Bishops and Roman Curia in the Vatican.
“We make bold to state that we believe that religion and politics
must not be mixed up because section 10 of the constitution states
clearly that Nigeria is a secular state and the Constitution says
Democracy is the only form of government and that the people are the
owners of the Sovereignty of Nigeria”.
“Chapter four is replete with human rights provisions including the
freedom of speech which we exercised in our criticism of Fr Mbaka’s
unscientific, unverifiable and indeed verbose claims which at best
amounts to sorcery.
Onwubiko reminded Mbaka that he was free to spread his messages
stressing that HURIWA never believed in sorcery nor magic except in God.
He further described Mbaka’s allegations as undemocratic maintaining
that nobody or authority has the power to restrain HURIWA from
exercising their fundamental freedoms.
While washing his hands off the allegations, he restated the loyalty,
prayers and support of HURIWA to President Muhammadu Buhari led
administration.
Onwubiko insisted that Nigerians must divorce religion from politics
adding that Mbaka was wrong to see HURIWA as perceived enemies of
Nigeria and President Buhari.
