The visiting President of world football
governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has said if the organisation
should consider increasing the number of teams that will be
participating in the World Cup he would propose two more slots for
Africa.
“If FIFA will be increasing football
teams in World Cup competition, I will propose two more teams to come
from Africa,” he said.
There are presently 32 finalists for the
World Cup with Africa represented by five teams. The Italian elected in
February this year, arrived in Abuja on Sunday on a two-day visit to
Nigeria.
He also said that the organisation would
soon decide to increase its yearly contributions and investments by
four per cent in football development.
As regards football development in
Nigeria, Infantino said more work needed to be done in the areas of
organisational structures, setting up of training centres and better
framework.
