Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo robbed of 4 million naira in Russia



As he arrived at Moscow’s Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport for a FIFA charity game, Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo was robbed of £8,000 (roughly four million naira) in cash.

According to reports in British newspaper The Mirror, Kanu who was travelling with a British passport reported the theft when he landed in Kaliningrad where the FIFA game he played in took place.

However, security officials in the city have confirmed that the thieves who work as loaders at the airport have been identified and Kanu’s money would be returned to him. Lieutenant colonel Irina Volk, spokeswoman for the Russian Interior Ministry added that the culprits now face up to eight years for their offence.
Kanu is one of the most recognizable African footballers having enjoyed a long career across several European clubs, most notable among them Arsenal of England.
